Vuelta al hogar/Back at home

ENGLISH VERSION BELOW
Ya llevo dos semanas en Europa, la primera en España y la segunda en Holanda. La vida aquí parece moverse más deprisa. Sólo en estas dos semanas, han venido los Reyes alternativos, hemos tomado las uvas, también alternativas, he estado con mi familia y amigos(aunque no tanto como me hubiera gustado), volví para Holanda y empezé a trabajar en la tesis. Tengo noticias frescas:
1. Estoy escribiendo un artículo para un conferencia mundial de Economía Agraria, que se celebrará en Gante (Bélgica) en Agosto (www.eaae.org).
2. Me han aceptado en un internado en la Comisión Europea de Agricultura que empezaré el 1 de Marzo y terminaré, si nada cambia, el 31 de Julio.
3. Soy feliz como una perdiz al reencontrarme con esta gente maravillosa de Wageningen aunque algunos nos dejan, como Jerónimo, pero para irse a las antípodas a seguir su carrera.
4. Echo de menos Sudáfrica y al a gente que he dejado allí (vaya noticia!!) Pero como se dice, esto no ha sido un final,sino un comienzo.
Y eso es todo amigos!!!

I´ve been already two weeks in Europe, the first one in Spain and the second one in The Netherlands. Life in Europe seems to move on quicker. Only in these two weeks the Alternative Three Wise Men (should have come the 6th of January) arrived full of presents, we ate the grapes (alternatives as well, cause they should have been in Silvester), I´ve been with my familly and friends (less time as what I´d have liked), I´ve flown back to the Netherlands and I started working on the Thesis. and I have fresh baked news:
1. I started writing an article that, I´ve everything works as I expect, I will presnt in a Agricultural Economy Conference in Gant (Belgium) next Agust.
2. I´ve been accepted in an Internship at the European Commission of Agriculture, that will last from 1st of MArch till 31st of July.
3. I´ve met again the marvellous people of Wageningen and I´m very happy, despite some of them leave to the other side of the world to continue their carriar, like Jeronimo.
4. I miss South Africa and the people I met there (what a new!!!) But this was not an End, but a Beginning.

Braai de despedida/ Farewel-braai

ENGLISH VERSION UNDER PARAGRAPHS IN SPANISH


Los últimos días en Sudáfrica fueron encantadores, disfrutando con Jan y Dirk en casa, y viendo a la poca gente que ya queda en Sudáfrica de toda la que he tenido la suerte de conocer. Presentamos el fruto de los cuatro meses de estancia allí y fue bastante bien. Ahora aún nos queda mucho por hacer de la tesis del Máster, pero podremos con ello.



My last days in South Africa were fantastic, enjoying with Jan and Dirk at home, and spending time with the few people that were left there, from the huge amount of people I´ve met. WE presented the outcome of our work during this almost four months of staying there and it went quite good. We still need to work a lot in the MSc Thesis, but nothing we cannot handle.

El último día llegó Alejandra, una amiga de Costa Rica con la que estudio en Wageningen y que ha estado de vacaciones en Sudáfrica nada menos que 6 semanas. Por casualidades de la vida resultó que viajamos juntas en el vuelo de vuelta a las Europas. Menos mal porque un viaje de 12 horas se hace mucho mejor en buena compañía.

ALEJANDRA
On the last day came Alejandra (a friend from costa Rica with whom I study at Wageningen who have been 6 weeks on holiday in South Africa). Luck put us together into the same flight back to Europe. It was very nice to travel the 12 hours-long-journey in such a good company.

La última cena fue una última barbacoa o Braai (versión sudafricana de la BBQ), regada con una estupenda sangría (hecha con gran amor por los habitantes de la casa), un poco caliente porque la cazuela donde la hicimos era demasiado grande para entrar en el frigorífico, y mojito. Como no había un recipiente lo suficientemente grande, volvimos a utilizar una lavadora manual. Quedaba muy elegante.

BRIAN AND JENIFER

The last supper was a BBQ or Braai (south african version of a BBQ), watered with a marvellous Sangría (made with extreme love by the inhabitants of the house), which was a little bit warm becuase the pot containing it was far too large to fit it into the frigde, and Mojito. We didn´t have a container large enough, so we used again a manual washing-machine. It looked very elegant.


JAN AND HANNES

Vino mucha gente: Theo (mi supervisor y maestro asador), Brian (del departamento) y su pareja, Jenifer, Hannes (el casero de Dirk, en la foto con Jan), Hanno (compañero de Dirk en el laboratorio) y su mujer; Chris, Ollie, Johannes and Gerard (alemanes a los que conocía a través de Dirk), Sigrid, Irina y sus padres (austríacos a los que tedré que hacer una visita), y la representación local Riaan, Franco and his girlfriend y Karen (chica encantadora de la que había oido hablar mucho y a la que por fin pude conocer). Por supuesto, a estos se les suman los de casa: Alejandra, Dirk y Jan.

We were quite a lot of people: Theo (my supervisor and Braai Master), Brian (from the department) and his partner Jenifer, Hannes (Dirk´s landlord, in the picture with Jan), Hanno (Dirk's workmate)and his wife; Chris, Ollie, Johannes and Gerard (Germans I got to know through Dirk), Sigrid, Irina and her parents (Austrians I will visit eventually), and the south african section Riaan, Franco and his girlfriend and Karen (gorgeous girl from whom I had heard so much and I finally had the chance to meet). Of corse, Jan, Dirk and Alejandra were also there.

Lo pasamos muy bien y la noche se alargó un poco. Por cierto que al final, como en todas las fiestas, la cosa empezó a desvariar un poco y terminamos haciendo cosas como las de la foto. ¡¡Muchas gracias por esta última (por el momento) cena!!
We had a great time and the night went a little long. By the way, at the end, as in every party , we started going crazy and we end up doing the kind of things like those shown at the picture. Thank you very much for this last (by the moment) supper!!

Última visita a Tradouw/Last visit to Tradouw

El pasado fin de semana fuimos por última vez a visitar la granja de Theo, nuestro supervisor en Sudáfrica. Tres días de retiro espiritual, o casi, porque el martes teníamos que hacer nuestra presentación final del proyecto de la tesis y estuvimos todo el lunes trabajando.

Last weekend we went for the last time to Tradouw, where our supervisor has his farm. Three days of spiritual retreat, or almost, becuase on tuesday morning we had to present the results of our Thesis and we spent the whole monday working.
