Este día ocurrieron tres grandes eventos: mis adorados padres cumplieron la treintena, mi gran amiga Cristina Delgado se acercó un poquito más a ella, y yo…¡¡¡comencé mis vacaciones!!! A las 12 de la mañana llegaba al Aeropuerto Internacional Tambo en Johannesburgo, nada que ver con el de Ciudad del Cabo (aunque también está en construcción preparándose para el mundial de Fútbol). En compañía de dos buenos mozos, un Toyota Yaris y Nacho, nos encaminamos hacia el Parque Nacional Kruger, haciendo noche en Graskop. Este pueblo está junto a la reserva natural de Blyde river canyon, que al igual que el Kruger, es muy recomendable visitar.

Today three huge events took place: my beloved Parents turned thirty, my great friend Cristina Delgado came a little bit closer to them, and I… started my holiday!!! At noon I was arriving at Tambo Interantional Airport in Johannesburg, nothing to compare with the one in Cape Town (despite it´s also under construction getting ready for the Football World cup). With two nice guys, a Toyota Yaris and Nacho, we went to the Kruger National Park, stopping at Graskop for sleeping. This town is in the boundaries of the Blyde River Canyon Natural Reserve, which as Kruger is very worthy to visit.



Así que el día 9 bien prontito estábamos cruzando las puertas del Kruger. Nuestra ruta no pudo empezar mejor. Sólo el primer día ya vimos un Guepardo, un Leopardo en un árbol, Leones, Jirafas, Ñus, Águilas, Buitres y muchísimas aves más, millones de antílopes (Impalas, Bushbucks, Gacelas, Steenboks, Kudus, Waterboks…), Búfalos, Cebras, Facóqueros (Pumbas, para los amigos), Elefantes… En fin, un carrusel de animales. Lo bueno del Parque Kruger es que los animales están acostumbrados a que los coches no les hacen nada, y se acercan muchísimo. De hecho, se ven bastantes más animales con el coche que andando, como pudimos comprobar en una excursión a pié que hicimos (con guías con rifles y todo). Por la noche, nos apuntamos a un recorrido nocturno para ver las bestias de la noche. Hienas, un Leopardo, Hipopótamos, Buhos, Gatos salvajes africanos… y suma y sigue.



So the 9th of December, very early in the morning, we were crossing the gates of the Kruger National Park. Our game drive couldn´t start better. Already in the first day we saw a Cheetah, a Leopard chilling out up on a tree, Lions, Giraffes, Blue Wild beasts, Eagles, Vultures and many more birds, millions of antelopes (Impalas, Bushbucks, Springboks, Steenboks, Kudus, Waterbucks…)Buffaloes, Zebras, Warthogs (Pumbas), Elephants,…Summing up, a hell of a lot of animals. The good thing of the Kruger National Park is that animals are used to cars and they come very close to them. Indeed, you can see much more animals when you´re in a car than when you do a walking game trip, as we could experienced in the walking trip we did (even with guides with rifles). At night, we joined a night game trip to see the night life animals. Hyenas, on Leopard, Hippos, Owls, Wild African Cats… plus, plus, plus.



A lo largo del parque hay campamentos para pasar la noche. Están muy acondicionados y, cuanto más al norte, su tamaño se va reduciendo y su servicio se va mejorando. Las primeras dos noches las pasamos en Letaba, después fuimos al sur a Satara y terminamos en Lower Sabie. Bien es cierto que cuanto más al sur se desplaza uno, más densidad de animales hay. De camino a Lower Sabie tuvimos la suerte de encontrarnos tres Rinocerontes Blancos, una pequeña familia de Leones, Cocodrilos y lagartos enormes.

All along the Park there are Camps to overnight. They are very well equipped and, the northern you go, the smaller they are and the better their service is. We spent the first two nights in Letaba, then we drove southwards to Satara and we finished at Lower Sabie. I must admit that the southern in the Park, the higher the density of animals is. On our way to Lower Sabie, we met three White Rhinos, a little family of Lions, Crocodiles and huge Lizards.



Por cierto, que para ver todos estos animales uno tiene que sacrificar un poco su sueño. Todos los días nos levantamos en torno a las 4 a.m. Eso sí, los amaneceres y los atardeceres en África son realmente maravillosos.

I must say that to be able to see all those animals, one has to sacrifice a little bit his/her sleeping time. Everyday we woke up around 4 a.m. However, African sunrise and sunsets are really wonderful.
